Making volunteering accessible, actionable, and engaging for volunteers and city partners.

Spring 2025

Austin Parks and Recreation Department (PARD) asked wkrm to explore how volunteer coordination could be unified across divisions so they can better engage the community, track impact, and reduce reliance on their partners to fill the gaps.

During the Spring semester, our wkrm student team learned how human centered design can be applied to civic problems. They worked with the City of Austin Parks and Recreation Department (PARD) to explore how volunteer coordination could be unified across divisions so they can better engage the community, track impact, and reduce reliance on their partners to fill the gaps.

They applied their design research, writing, communication, interaction, and three-dimensional design skills to frame problems, insights, ideas, and solutions. Just as important, they learned how to collaborate in a studio environment, faced the real challenges of teamwork, and built a relationship with our client through multiple presentations and work sessions.
